Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and his trade counterpart Moses Kuria are pulling apart on the proposal to import maize and the 72 hours ultimatum issued to maize farmers to sell their crops to the government. Linturi has curiously questioned Kuria’s statement insisting that it is only the ministry of agriculture that has the power to order the importation of maize and says the government is yet to decide on that and confirms the ban on GMO importation was lifted. Linturi says he is the custodian of the national granaries and would know how much maize the country needs and the deficit.
