This calculus video tutorial provides a basic introduction into converging and diverging sequences using limits. It explains how to write out the first four terms of a sequence and how to determine if a sequence converges or diverges by finding the limit of a sequence. If the limit exists and it equals to some constant L as n approaches infinity, then the sequence converges. If the limit does not exist or increases or decreases without bound, that is, to positive or negative infinity - then the sequence diverges. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems of determining if a sequence is convergent or divergent using Lhopital's rule, the squeeze theorem, and properties of logarithms. It contains example problems with trigonometric functions such as sine and cosine, natural logarithms, square root functions, factorials, and exponential functions. In this video we’re going to discover some key sequences terminology and how to recognise and generate some important sequences. We will come across all of these key sequences... Arithmetic, Linear, Triangular, Square, Cube, Fibonacci, Quadratic, Geometric. And these key words; Term, 1st term, Common difference, Common ratio. Each number in the sequence is called a term. This just tells us that the sequence carries on forever. Sequences that have a common difference, so the same difference every time, are called arithmetic sequences, or linear sequences. The sequence comes from the pattern of dots needed to make a triangle. Square numbers and cube numbers are also special sequences... This is called the Fibonacci Sequence. You just add up the 2 numbers before to get the next term. There’s a lot you can discover about Fibonacci, such as if you make squares of the Fibonacci sizes, you get a spiral... It’s linked to The Golden Ratio. And is seen throughout nature... So, in arithmetic or linear sequences, it’s called a common difference and in geometric sequences, it’s called a common ratio. So now we know the difference between these sequences... Arithmetic, Linear, Triangular, Square, Cube, Fibonacci, Quadratic, Geometric. And what these key words mean. This calculus 2 video tutorial provides a basic introduction into monotonic sequences and bounded sequences. A monotonic sequence is a sequence that is always increasing or decreasing. You can prove that a sequence is always increasing by showing that the next term is greater than the previous term. This video also discusses bounded sequences. A sequence can be bounded above or have an upper bound it it has a maximum value it can reach. If there is a minimum value in the sequence, then it has a lower bound or it's bounded below. A sequence that is bounded above and bounded below is said to be bounded. A monotonic sequence that is bounded is said to be convergent. This video explains how to determine the convergence and divergence of a sequence by determining if its a monotonic sequence and if its a bounded sequence. We introduce sequences, consider them as functions, and go over some sequence notation as well as other concepts and terminology in today's lesson video lesson on sequences! A sequence is a list of numbers in some definite order. Each number in a sequence is called a term of the sequence. So the first number in the sequence is the first term. Some sequences have nice expressions that tell us how to find the nth term in the sequence, but not all sequences are so simple. We'll touch on the Fibonacci sequence as well, which is an example of what's called a recursive sequence. If a sequence gets arbitrarily close to some real number, we call that number the limit of the sequence and say the sequence converges to the limit, and thus the sequence is called a convergent sequence. A sequence that doesn't converge is said to diverge. A sequence may diverge to positive infinity, negative infinity, or neither. For example, the sequence s_n = (-1)^n is -1, 1, -1, 1, ... .
