Located on the southern portion of the island of Luzon, lies one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. The volcano I am referring to is Mount Bulusan, which last erupted in 2017. Since this volcano erupts once every few years, it is only a matter of time before it produces another large eruption. This video will discuss this volcano, and mention what its future hazards are. On Sunday, June 5, Mount Bulusan, the fourth most active volcano in the Philippines, experienced a phreatic explosion. The volcanic eruption occurred at 10:37 local time and lasted about 17 minutes. In the last 24 hours before the eruption, 77 earthquakes were recorded. In connection with these events, the alert level of the Bulusan volcano has been raised from 0 to 1. This means that the volcano is currently in an abnormal state. Ashfall has been reported in areas west of Mount Bulusan, including the cities of Irosin, Juban and Kasiguran. Authorities have ordered residents of Sorsogon province to prepare for a possible evacuation. The population is prohibited from entering the 4-kilometer danger zone of the volcano. Civil aviation authorities are urging their pilots to avoid flying near the top of the volcano. Scientists from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology have reported that another eruption is possible.
In the last week, Mount Bulusan in the Philippines unexpectedly erupted, sending a plume of ash to 2,743 meters or 9,000 feet. Numerous volcano tectonic earthquakes have since occurred underneath its summit, meaning that it is likely to erupt again. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, there is now a greatly increased chance that Mount Awu will erupt in the next several weeks due to the detection of harmonic tremor underneath its edifice. And, in Russia, a volcano known for containing one of the planet's rarest minerals unexpectedly began showing signs of unrest through increased sulfur dioxide emissions. This video will discuss these volcano related news stories, as told and analyzed by a volcanologist. The Mount Bulusan volcano in the Philippines just produced a new eruption, sending a plume of ash 2,800 meters or 9,000 feet into the atmosphere. Although the eruption only lasted for seventeen minutes on June 5th, there is a worry that more explosions will occur rather soon. This eruption occurred while the volcano was at an alert level of 0, and was thus completely unexpected. This video will separate fact from fiction, and discuss what size and duration of volcanic activity is expected at Bulusan. Bulusan is a complex stratovolcano situated in an 11 kilometer wide caldera. The Mount Bulusan volcano in the Philippines just produced a new eruption, sending a plume of ash more than 1,000 meters or 3,280 feet into the atmosphere. This eruption lasted for 18 minutes and began at 3:37 am local time on June 12th. This marks the second explosion at Mount Bulusan in a week, meaning that in all likelihood a prolonged eruptive period has begun. Interestingly, several reports made during the eruption claimed that an orange glow was seen from Bulusan's summit. Spectacular Explosion: Eruption of Bulusan Volcano Causes Tsunami of Ash and Lava Around 60 families have left their homes near Bulusan Volcano after Sunday's phreatic or steam-driven eruption, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday. As of this morning, we have received information that we have 60 families, but last night we have information that more than 100 people have been evacuated in Juban municipality, spokesperson Mark Timbal told ANC. He said Juban and nearby Irosin were the areas most affected by the volcanic eruption. The wind direction yesterday was westerly direction that’s why some of the communities in the western side of the volcano were the ones who had experienced the heavy ashfall. But so far, we don’t have any report of casualties, he said. #volcano #tsunami #bulusan
