2017 Mercedes Benz GLS Review DEUTSCH Wir sausen in einem neuen 2017er Mercedes-Benz GLS mit 100 km/h über Glatteis und Schnee, während die scharfen Gipfel der österreichischen Alpen von Obergurgl-Hochgurgl schweigend aus einer senkrechten Meile über uns herabstarren. Normalerweise würde man sich bei Autobahngeschwindigkeiten auf diesen leicht tückischen, gefrorenen Bergstraßen mehr als nur ein bisschen unwohl fühlen, aber der gut ausgestattete deutsche Familien-Crossover mit sieben Passagieren, den wir pilotieren, fühlt sich so selbstbewusst und gepflanzt an wie ein Weltcup-Skifahrer, der aufwärts fährt ein Riesenslalomlauf. Tatsächlich ist der GLS 2017 genau die Art von SUV-Familien, die einen großen, luxuriösen und leistungsfähigen Allradantrieb benötigen, der für ein Wochenende auf der Piste nach Obergurgl-Hochgurgl fahren könnte – eine Aufgabe, die sein Vorgänger, der GL- Klasse, die zweifellos seit Jahren in Skigebieten auf der ganzen Welt geübt wird. Worum geht es also genau bei diesem neuen GLS? Und warum das S zum GL hinzufügen? Angesichts des ständig wachsenden Produktportfolios entschieden die Stuttgarter, dass eine kleine Ordnung in der Namensstrategie angebracht war. Vorbei sind die Moniker GLK, ML und GL. Jetzt beginnen alle SUVs mit GL und fügen ein Suffix hinzu, das der Klassengröße entspricht. Die kleinste Ute von Benz – der GLA – bekommt das A von der Nicht-für-Amerika-A-Klasse, während die nächste Größe, der auf der C-Klasse basierende GLK, jetzt der GLC ist. Der ML wurde auf der E-Klasse-Architektur aufgebaut und wurde als GLE wiedergeboren. Noch verwirrt? Obwohl der GL technisch auf einer gestreckten M-Klasse / GLE-Plattform basiert, bekommt er einen S angeheftet, da er der größte SUV in der Aufstellung ist und mit der Flaggschiff-S-Klasse-Limousine korrespondieren soll. Mercedes hat sogar angenommen, den GLS als „die S-Klasse der SUVs“ zu bezeichnen, aber dieser Übergang ist etwas schwieriger als das. Das ist eher ein Kompliment an die S-Klasse als an den GLS. Während die S-Klasse in einer wahren Liga (oder drei) für sich spielt, hat der GLS, nun ja, sagen wir einfach, er hat etwas Konkurrenz. Der Land Rover LR4 hat sieben Sitzplätze und ist geländetauglich, ebenso wie der luxuriöse neue Lexus LX 570, im Wesentlichen ein noblerer Land Cruiser. Der brandneue Audi Q7 und der Volvo XC90 sind zwar nicht ganz so groß wie der GLS, aber beide sehr, sehr gut. Und obwohl die Käufer vielleicht nicht ganz dieselben sind, bietet der Cadillac Escalade seine eigene Interpretation von dreireihigem Luxus, obendrein mit einer großartigen Anhängelast. Sogar der Infiniti QX80 könnte in der Mischung berücksichtigt werden, obwohl er zugegebenermaßen weniger raffiniert ist als der GLS.

Die souveräne Präsenz seines Äußeren ergibt sich aus seinen stattlichen, nochmals gewachsenen Dimensionen (Länge +77 mm, Breite +22 mm). Das Raumangebot insbesondere der zweiten Reihe profitiert von dem um 60 mm längeren Radstand. Die drei voll elektrisch verstellbaren Sitzreihen bieten allen Passagieren großzügigen Platz und Sitzkomfort. Die Sitze der dritten Reihe lassen sich zugunsten des Kofferraumvolumens (bis zu 2.400 Liter) elektrisch im Boden versenken, die zweite Reihe flach klappen.
