Chapman should be aware that high morale can evaporate be lost by a couple of big losses and the Ukrainian men on the Donetsk front have been forced by Kiev to over extend supply lines.
The Russians do not have take over Bakhmut town but merely control the important routes around it with nimble tracked armor and they can be as slow as they choose to be in pushing opposing forces out of Donbas.
Ukrainian troops have evidently not received expected artillery and large numbers are in trenches. Unless there is a brisk orderly retreat to Kharkiv (Dnipro is now too far too late) in days substantial numbers will be taken prisoner.
Another factor in winter fighting this time is that advanced electronics and power storage units do not fare well in low temperatures and a single misfire can entirely disable a big gun or rocket launcher. Repairs in the field are not possible.
